Wi-Fi (short for wireless fidelety) is a wireless technology used to increased the compatibility of wireless networks. A Wi-Fi enabled deviced such as a personal computer, video game console, mobile phone, MP3 player or personal digital assistant can connect to intenet when within a range of wireless network connected to the internet.
The coverage of one or more (interconnected) access points - called hotspots - can compromise an area as small as a few rooms or as large as many square miles. Coverage in the larger area may depend on a group of access points with overlapping coverage.
Wireless network operate using radio frecuency (RF) technology, a frecuency within the electromacnetic spectrum associated with radio wave propagation. When an RF current is supplied to an antena, an electromagnetic field is created that then is able to propagate through space.
In order to connect to an acces point and join a wireless network, computers must be equipped with wireless network addapters.
